Acupuncture at Spring

All types of acupuncture use very thin, solid, hair-like disposable needles that are inserted into specific locations on the body.  Many of these locations are neuro-physiologically significant and have positive effects upon the nervous, musculoskeletal, and cardiovascular systems. A host of positive effects can be produced dependent upon where the is needle inserted on the patient, such as reduced neurogenic inflammation, removal of motor muscle inhibition, vasodilation of blood vessels, activation of nerve signals, and release of natural pain killers such as endorphins.

Rapid-Relief Acupuncture

Is our own unique style of distal needling acupuncture that often produces near instantaneous pain relief (5-10 sec.). We love this method for four reasons:

  • Rapid results – this helps both the patient and the practitioner know that they are on track
  • Improved blood flow to targeted tissues that results in not only in a profound healing effect, but also a major reduction in pain (which is often due to lack of blood flow)
  • Retrains the nervous system not to be in chronic pain. Our nervous systems can get in the habit of feeling pain even when there is not a good reason to. Acupuncture helps re-educate these pathways.
  • Treatments can be quick and effective – no need for patients to get undressed, as we only need to access from shoulders to hands, and knees to feet.

Sports/Orthopedic Acupuncture

Is an advanced method of Acupuncture that involves the integration of the best of both Eastern and Western approaches to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of sports, work, and orthopedic injuries (musculoskeletal pain).

With Sports/Orthopedic Acupuncture, the well-trained Acupuncturist is able to do much more than simply take your pain away. This method restores muscle function by re-establishing the proper dynamics between opposing muscle groups. This in turn can allow for reduced pain, increased agility, and greater freedom of movement.

What this means for you is a stronger golf swing, the ability to play with the children in your life, or your ankles being stronger and less apt to twist. We have seen this method work wonders with chronic sacroiliac pain, curvatures of the spine, and other long standing disfunctions.

For the healthy athlete, this method can enhance performance by reducing recovery time, pain, inflammation, and frequency of muscle spasms and swelling. It can also enhance energy, reduce mental stress, and increase focus and flexibility.

Unlike Rapid Relief Acupuncture which is done away from the area of discomfort, Sports/Orthopedic Acupuncture is done near or at the immediate area of pain or disfunction. Because of this, we ask that you wear loose, comfortable clothes so that the area needing treatment can be accessed. We have been trained in professional modest draping, and our clients’ comfort is our foremost concern.

Which acupuncture treatment?

These two types of acupuncture work well together for muscular-skeletal injury. Rapid Relief Acupuncture can get you out of pain quickly, and Sports/Orthopedic Acupuncture can help re-educate your movement patterns so you can stay pain-free.
